Vulnerable Pathways Research

Exploring Adverse Childhood Events (ACE) and their impact on determining rough sleeping and homelessness later in life

Smart Response

The Smart Communities Team designed, facilitated, and delivered interviews with 20+ identified rough sleepers across Somerset. Transcripts of the interviews and resulting case studies outlined the journey of each individual and highlighted opportunities for interventions. This was a highly sensitive piece of work that required experience, knowledge and skill.

Outcomes

The Somerset County Council Public Health Commissioner now has evidence to support reports outlining need for earlier intervention with people who have had ACE’s. The research has informed the design and commissioning of new and improved health services for homeless people in Somerset and enabled the experience of the individual to be heard in their own words.
